Leopard 1 can be considered one of the most successful armoured vehicles built in the West. Nearly 5,000 Leopard 1 MBTs were produced from 1965 until 1984. It was purchased by ten countries as-new builds. Eight countries acquired additional refurbished or converted tanks, bringing the total number of countries using the Leopard 1 series to twelve.
Even after 50 years of service, the Leopard 1 famoly remains in service today with five countries.
